Якщо в середині ХХ століття поняття «категоричний» (безумовний, цілком визначений) протиставлялося «гіпотетичному» (той, що потребує підтвердження) та «диз’юнктивному» (розділовий), то наприкінці минулого віку як протилежний «категоричному» залишається «гіпотетичний», а на початку ХХІ віку – зникає із словників саме поняття «категоричний».
